LETTERS TO MYSELF
Studio Art Senior Thesis Project
This project focuses on the ways in which we can capture the essence of being within a work of art. I experiment with the theme of portraiture; what does it mean for something to be a portrait and how can that documentation encapsulate the experience of being? By printing and layering materials and images, I work with the idea of memory, of the recreation of memory and the ways in which we remember ourselves. I bring together disparate fragments of experience and material into one body, in this case the body of a book. In this work, I curate myself into a series of artist books with clear beginning, somewhat clear endings but a multiplicity of readings making them surrogates for my own evolving sense of being human.
